Meet The Maker
Hi everyone! I'm Mairead, the 22-year-old plant lover behind PrettyPlants.com. My journey into the world of plants and entrepreneurship started unexpectedly, while waitressing at a small breakfast diner.
After dropping out of high school and receiving my GED, I worked as a server at an assisted living while COVID shut down the world. Seeing people at the end of their lives during such a hard time, opened my eyes to start thinking about my future.
When COVID regulations began lifting, me and my best friend started waitressing at a small breakfast diner. For four years, we juggled the fast-paced environment of a small breakfast diner, where I learned the ins and outs of business, customer service, multitasking, and running the front of house. After hours I spent my time gardening, collecting indoor plants and beading sun catchers.
One day, I brought a few plants to work to quarantine before bringing them home. Little did I know, they'd become a hit! Customers started asking if they were for sale, and before I knew it, I was running a mini plant shop alongside my waitressing duties. I hung and sold my sun catchers as well, bringing rainbows and nature to everyone's mornings. From taking orders and serving tables to washing dishes, answering phones, and managing takeout, I became a one-woman show, all while nurturing my growing plant business.
In January, I took a step back from waitressing to focus on growing PrettyPlants while taking more classes, in order to improve and maintain the quality which I am striving to ensure. My goal is to combine my love for plants with my desire to build a sustainable, eco friendly business.
Since then, it’s been an incredible adventure, seeing my plants and sun catchers bring a little bit of joy to more and more people in my community.
Social media, particularly Instagram, has been a bit of a challenge for me, but I'm determined to share my journey and connect with fellow plant enthusiasts. Follow along to watch PrettyPlants grow!
